National civil society organisations to deliberate National
Environmental Management:Air Quality Bill
On Friday and Saturday this week (23rd and 24th
May 2003) civil society organisations from around the country
will be gathering in Cape Town to deliberate the merits of
the new National Environmental Management: Air Quality
Bill.
More than 30 civil society groupings will be participating
in the workshop, including representatives from pollution
hot spots such as Secunda, Sasolburg, south Durban, Richards
Bay, Vanderbijlpark, Boipatong, and Table View (Cape Town).
The main outcome of this workshop will be a joint civil society
submission on this Bill, which will be presented to the relevant
government institutions and constituency representatives in
parliament. On the conclusion of the workshop a joint press
release will be formulated which will be distributed on Sunday,
in time for the Monday morning news.
This workshop is being jointly organised by the Contact Trust
and groundWork.
