TSUNAMI VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS, GIVE TO THE GAIA RELIEF FUND
The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) will
match the first $2,000 of contributions from its members to
this fund. If you contribute $50, then GAIA will contribute
a matching $50 to double your donation size!
Among pressing survival issues are severe problems regarding
waste and sanitation. GAIA members in affected areas have
requested support for dealing with waste and related issues.
GAIA is establishing a special fund to support its members
working on waste and related environmental health issues in
Tsunami impacted communities. Understandably in the aftermath
of such a huge disaster, waste management issues often become
forgotten in the immediate need to help survivors. With participation
from the international com-munity, wecan support our members
working on BOTH immediate survival and longer
term sustainable solutions to waste management.
The funds will be re-granted to organizations in each of
the four hardest hit countries where we have active members
currently engaged in relief and rebuilding programs: Indonesia,
India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Fully aware that often contributions
given in good faith to such appeals end up in the pockets
of the military, high ranking politicians or the IMF/World
Bank as part of loan repayments. Any money donated to the
GAIA appeal will be sent to trusted small organizations based
in the recipient countries where its most needed.
To contribute to this fund, please send a check or money
order to either the U.S. or the Philippines.
In the U.S., GAIA is a fiscally-sponsored project of the
Ecology Center. Tax-deductible contributions payable to The
Ecology Center- GAIA/Tsunami Fund and mailed to: GAIA, 1442A
Walnut Street, #20, Berkeley, CA 94709, USA. For more information,
