PRESS RELEASE - 09 September 2004
Maritzburg acts on local and global injustices!
9 September 2004 - The Eastwood Community Forum and the People
Against War have planned a number of activities this weekend
to demonstrate their opposition to injustices and human rights
violations both at a local and global level.
On Friday 10 September 2004, the People Against War will
be voicing their objections and concern on the human rights
atrocities occurring in Palestine. The organisation will be
having a placard demonstration, a march and a screening of
the film Fahrenheit 9/11. [A full programme is attached].
The People Against War has appealed to all people to show
their support against senseless wars and this humanitarian
crisis.
On Sunday 12 September 2004, the Eastwood Community Forum
will be hosting a meeting for all people affected by the rates
crisis at the Eastwood Hall at 2pm. The ongoing rates crisis
is worsening and the local Council seems unwilling to deal
with the concerns of the citizens they claim to represent.
Council should be protecting people but instead they are feeding
them to the loan sharks and greedy estate agents. The forum
urges people to stand together to fight the injustice of evictions
and unfair rates demands.
The activities planned for Friday and Sunday are not just
about rates or about religion. It is about a violation of
basic human rights. It is imperative for all people in Maritzburg
to show their support by attending the above activities.
